Serbian anatomical society assamble teachers and scientists from human and veterinary anatomy, histology, embriology and similar morfological sciencies, from Serbia and other countries.
Vladeta Simić, MD, PhD, chief on the Anatomy department on the Veterinary faculty in Belgrade gave the 1st of March 1955 the iniciative for founding the Anatomical Society of Yugoslavia. He informed about it Branko Šljivić, MD, PhD, and Siniša Radojević, MD, PhD, asking for their opinion. In July 1955 a few participants of the VIth International anatomical congress in Paris met in the aula of the Medical faculty and discussed about the importance of founding the Anatomical Society of Yugoslavia and becoming member of the International federation of anatomists. This meeting attendend: Branko Šljivić, MD, PhD, Vladeta Simić, MD, PhD, Jelena Krmpotić, MD, PhD, Radivoj Milin, MD, PhD, Valentina Kobe, MD, PhD, and Hajrudin Hadžiselimović, MD, PhD. After aproval of all directors of the anatomy and histology departments in the country Vladeta Simić, MD, PhD, in the name of the actionary commettee convoked the founding assembly the 1st of July 1956 in Belgrade. On this assembly with now late Branko Šljivić, MD, PhD, as chairman, took part 14 participants from Belgrade, 6 from Zagreb, 2 from Ljubljana, 6 from Sarajevo and one from Skopje; all together 29 participants.
During the latest Congress of Anatomists that was held in Novi Sad in 2006 our Society celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Besides numerous participants from Serbia, many colleagues from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, Turkey and Romania participated at the Congress.
